Student Of The Month

By Dylan Musso

So, are you trying to make the cut for the student of the month? Well, it isn’t as simple as it is. Trying to make it won’t be easy. But, we have some advice on what happens behind the scenes. Maybe this will change your view on the student of the month. Who knows?

Each month, teachers select students who have demonstrated Beck's core values. One, for example, is compassion. These teachers will judge these students by not just the core values, but by coming into class on time, who work hard, who are kind, and who make good decisions. But, when you start to make bad decisions, you may lose this recognition level and you won’t be selected for the student of the month. The Student of the Month election normally happens on the first day of every month.

Usually, the student of the month breakfasts are held from October to May. But, if two students reach the same recognition level, one is usually held for the next month, and the other, the one after. Each school year, every team selects 16 students of the month. So, you may not get chosen. But, if you are a sixth or seventh grader, you could have 2 years or 1 year to get student of the month. You still have a chance.

The breakfast has evolved since its first start in 2003. The PTSA has been so wonderful over the years to supply the food. These foods include bagels, muffins, juice, etc. Mrs. Metzger offers a few words during these breakfasts. During the breakfasts, you can take group and individual photos with your parents and choose to send them home or not( at least if you want).

Beck used to do field trips for the students of the month until 2019. Yet, the locations didn’t vary. At the end of the year, they would take the students of the month and take them to a movie, and then a picnic. When they start the program up again, it could be the same things, or a new idea.

So, the student of the month is more than meets the eye. It’s not just a breakfast. It’s an entirety of activities that make up who and why they are the student of the month.
