Boys Soccer

By: Karalyn Convey

The boys’ A soccer team had a relatively successful season with 8 wins. “Our 2- 0 win away against Voorhees, we had lost to them 3-1 at home to start the season and really outplayed them at their place.” Coach Mullin explains. They made a huge comeback against their greatest rivals, The Voorhees Vikings. With lots of practice, they were able to improve on many skills to help them beat other highly skilled teams.

“We most often juggle and then run the perimeter of the back fields with some stretching in the corners.  A lot of times we will do a passing pattern followed by a possession drill and then finish with a small-sided scrimmage.  Later in the season we practice set pieces or PK’s to get ready for the playoffs.” Coach Mullin described what a usual practice entails for them as they prepared themselves for playoffs.

“Voorhees is always our biggest rival and we split the season series 1-1 this year.” The boys played very well against all their competitors ending the season.

“Young players should really participate in sports because they enjoy it!  Try to enjoy the entire experience!  The training, the fitness, the bus rides, etc…. and the wins and losses!  As you get older it starts to be too focused on winning and losing and is not as much about fun!” Coach Mullin reminds his team and anyone else participating in sports that winning is not the only factor when playing a sport but having fun. At the end of the season, the boys lost their championship game but they played well and fought hard wrapping up another great season.
